Elon Musk never fails to surprise us with each and every appearance that he makes. At the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia he discussed his infamous Mars colonization ambition and revealed SpaceX’s updated plan for its Interplanetary Transport System.
The most surprising part this time, however, didn’t come from the long BFR (“Big Fucking Rocket”) talk. By the end of his presentation, Musk proposed a way for the rocket technology to be used right here on Earth, which can make it possible to fly people from city-to-city in just minutes!
Musk made an on-stage presentation of the idea saying that the technology will allow “most long-distance trips” to be made in just 30 minutes and will make it possible and affordable for the passengers to go “anywhere on Earth in under an hour”.
“Most of what people consider to be long-distance trips could be completed in less than half-an-hour,” Musk said. This would be one of the most revolutionary moves so far for the travel industry that can change tremendously not only the way people travel, but also the way we work and live.
If you need some time to wrap around your head the idea of flying people from New York to Shanghai in just 39 minutes, the SpaceX video below will help you illustrate it better.
