Jonathan Bell on How to Create A Great Brand Name

Who doesn’t want to have a legendary, super-catchy startup name? But the process of choosing the right company name is not as simple as many may think. It is time-consuming, sometimes even very stressful.

It is good to have some guidance when it comes to picking the perfect startup name. Luckily, there is enough information out there that can help you find the perfect name for your startup.

During his TEDxTalk, Jonathan Bell gives step-by-step advice on how to create a lasting brand name. Here is what you should focus on when making your choice:

  1. Select what type of name you want. Bell says that there are seven different types of brand names in the world – eponymous, descriptive, acronymic, suggestive, associative, non-English, and abstract names.
  2. Decide what you want the name to say – think what your big idea is.
  3. Check that the name is available – do your research to make sure not only that the name is available but also if it means something different in another language.
