Amazon long ago has become much more than just a book delivery company as now it dominates almost every corner of the e-commerce market. Whenever we think that Amazon has reached its peak in perfecting their delivery services, the company always has something new to introduce us to in order to prove us wrong.
But this success is no accident – Amazon has always gone the extra mile to make the experience of their customers awesome. Now, however, they are taking it to a whole new level by aiming to deliver successfully even when you are not home – Introducing Amazon Key In-Home Kit!
How does it work?
Amazon Key, a product available only to Prime-members, uses a smart lock, a security camera that records the drop-off and an app.
If you shop on Amazon and know that you won’t be home to receive the delivery, you can choose “FREE in-home delivery” before you complete your order. On the day of the delivery, you will be notified that you will be receiving your package. When the courier arrives at your place, he will send an access request to the Amazon cloud by scanning the code of the package. Once the access is granted, he will be able to unlock the door, to place the package in and then lock it once he leaves.
You will be able to watch the delivery real-time through the Amazon Key App or to watch the video later. A notification will be sent to you once again when the delivery is completed and your door is locked.
Amazon Key will also allow you to grant permanent access to your home to other visitors such as your dog walker, house cleaners or AirBnb guests. Each time they enter the home you will receive a notification on the app.
The service will become available from November 8. It will be offered at a price of $250. There will not be extra charges yet some additional services will be available with an up-coming subscription plan.
Undoubtedly, this innovation will put to a challenge the trust of the users. But isn’t this simply the future of delivery services?
