On Tuesday, Twitter made an announcement that it is testing the expansion of character count from 140 symbols to 280. This significant change will be tested by a random group of Twitter accounts and is not available in Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
In a blog post the company explains the main reasons for this change: “We want every person around the world to easily express themselves on Twitter, so we’re doing something new: we’re going to try out a longer limit, 280 characters, in languages impacted by cramming (which is all except Japanese, Chinese, and Korean).”
Can’t fit your Tweet into 140 characters? 🤔
We’re trying something new with a small group, and increasing the character limit to 280! Excited about the possibilities? Read our blog to find out how it all adds up. 👇https://t.co/C6hjsB9nbL

Of course, some users responded to the changes in a humorous way, and the funniest part is that most of these comments are made within the 140 character limit.
The 280-character limit is a terrible idea. The whole beauty of Twitter is that it forces you to express your ideas concisely (1/47)

With 280 characters now trump can start a nuclear war and a war with the NFL in one tweet. What a time to be alive

literally my only talent was being able to think of tweets exactly 140 characters long. i don’t know if I will be able to alter this to 280.
